The UI of Smart Sniffer is very simple and allows to start recording in couple clicks:
- Select port to record using “Device is on port” switch, additional options for COM and USB ports may popup below.
- SetupLPT1 record success only, Open just saved log, Enable auto Bookmarks checkboxes. For the COM port you may want to set Emulation and recording.
- Click “Start”.
Wait until communication between program and device is complete and press “Stop” and “Save” button otherwise record may be lost. While recording is active you may click “Insert Bookmark” to markup record or even use automated insertion.
When “LPT” port is selected system print manager will be restarted and it will lose all tasks. Make sure you was not printing before. Also it takes some time, possibly 1-2 minutes.
To run Smart Sniffer and make records you will have to have “Administrator” account because software installs own drivers. Smart Sniffer may be launched from Virtual PCs but it has to have internet access to make login still.
Doing ”Stop” make sure target program has closed all ports or you may have deadlock from drivers.
